Who we are  

Professor Christopher Raine  MBE established the Ear Trust in 1990

Appointed as consultant ENT surgeon in 1987 has always had a specialist interest in all aspects of Hearing. 

The Yorkshire Cochlear Implant Service YCIS was established with the first CI’s performed in Yorkshire in 1990.

He was one of the founding members of The British Cochlear Implant Group.  He was surgical lead for the NICE review for cochlear implants tag166 in 2009 and worked with other organisations such as Action on Hearing Loss and BCIG to have the successful review of implantation criteria  (Tag 566 2019)

Appointed by NHS England he continues to offer advice to the Clinical Reference Group for Ophthalmology and Ears. He has written on quality standards for implant surgery and revised commissioning requirements for Bone Conduction Implants and Middle ear implants.

Chris remains as an active member of the Intercollegiate Examination board  currently as question writer and standard setting.

For many years he has supported training in developing countries, and especially in Sub-Saharan Malawi

Dr Anne Raine.  MB BS.  MRCGP  DRCOG,  Dip Pal Med.

Qualified at Newcastle upon Tyne University her initial specialisation was into General Practice, then moving into Oncology and Palliative care.

With a medical background her broad knowledge on health care has been important in providing guidance into the work of the Ear Trust. Anne has tirelessly raised funds for the charity, supporting Chris in achieving the aims of the charity. One of the pinnacle projects was the building of The Listening For Life Centre.    { link to LFLC PAGE]

Following a three month elective in Ghana early on in her medical career, Anne has retained her passion for helping in Africa in numerous ways, from raising funds for clean water to volunteering her time and expertise during frequent trips to Malawi over the last few years.

Mr Chris Pratt

Chris is the Trust’s accountant, having succeeded Mr Ron Hamer in 201…

With his expertise, he ensures that the charity is fully compliant .

Mrs Breeda Barry

Breeda joined the Ear Trust in its earlier years in a response to an advert requesting help in fundraising.  She has been a true ambassador and has taken on many challenges.   Her   “Irish” flare, personality and ability to never take “no” for an answer has been instrumental in achieving many of the charity’s goals
