In April 2019 Chris Raine, David Strachan and others visited Blantyre again. During the visit members of the Smiling Crocodile Charity were there to make a video in Chichewa language. The charity is run by Dagmar Herrmannova and the team supports children with complex needs and hearing impaired living in poverty in Czech republic, Africa and Asia. Lord Mayor and the Smiling Crocodile…

We were honoured to have The Lord mayor of Bradford, Councillor Doreen Lee and previous Lord Mayor Councillor Robin Owens as our official guests. Robin made the Ear Trust his charity of the year and it was with this help and associated publicity that was the backbone for the fundraising behind the successful completion and opening of the LFLC in 2009. Professor Raine gave an overview of how the LFLC came about and continues to be a centre and home for patients. As the Ear Trust’s motto is “Hear for Life”. Warm words were expressed by Mr Max Mclean, Chairman of the hospital board. Dr Stuart Viner, Consultant Radiologist gave an overview of new radiological technology – Cone Beam Scanning. He described the principles of how it works and how important such a system would greatly enhance the evaluation of patients attending the Yorkshire Auditory Implant Service (more detail can be seen in the Appeal ). 10 Year Royal Celebration

Save the date Tuesday 15th October! We are celebrating 10 years sine we had the official Royal Opening. The Duke of Gloucester opened the unit in 2009. During that time we have seen a huge increase in patients seen and treated. Not only for cochlear implants but also for all other types of devices. Bradford surgeon picks up MBE at Buckingham Palace

Pioneering ENT consultant surgeon, Professor Chris Raine, travelled to Buckingham Palace this week to collect his MBE medal.

Chris, who was behind the creation of our £2.8m Listening for Life Centre, as well as the founder of our Ear Trust charity, collected his recently-bestowed MBE medal from the Princess Royal on Tuesday.

A Bradford charity which raises money so that patients can receive the gift of hearing after life-changing surgery is celebrating its 25th anniversary this month.

The Ear Trust, based at Bradford Royal Infirmary (BRI), was set up by surgeon and ear, nose and throat consultant, Professor Chris Raine MBE, after he learned of the benefits that cochlear implants could bring to patients with profound deafness.

Listening For Life Appeal

The Ear Trust continues to support YCIS and other units both inside and outside of the hospital. The Trustees would like to thank all who have helped with fund raising. The Listening for Life Appeal has helped us build our new centre. The Ear Trust needs your continued support to buy and maintain the sophisticated equipment required to offer a first class service.
